Nine Mile Metals Activates The Wedge Project Drill Program, And Provides California Lake Drill Target #10 Update, Bathurst Mining Camp, New Brunswick
VANCOUVER, B.C. – Friday, January 26th, 2024, NINE MILE METALS LTD. (CSE: NINE, OTCQB: VMSXF, FSE: KQ9) (the “Company” or “Nine Mile”), is pleased to announce that it has received all necessary drill permits on its Wedge Project southwest of the Brunswick #12 Mine and has mobilized the Drill Rig onsite for its High Priority Drill Program on Targets #1 & #2. Drilling at California Lake Target #10 stopped on December 17th, 2023, above target depth due to inclement weather. The drill target is located in rolling hills west of Bathurst and the roads (20 km+) are not maintained by the NB Department of Highways making access for both crew and fuel trucks extremely hazardous. The drill hole has been capped and will be re-entered when weather permits. Once shut down, the drill was relocated to the Wedge to avoid having equipment stuck deep in the bush over the winter months. Meanwhile, drill core is being cut and submitted to ALS Certified Labs in Vancouver for assay. Downhole geophysics (BHEM) is also being evaluated since this can be done in the winter months prior to resuming the drill program, through snowmobile access. We are obtaining quotes and recommendations for implementation. Drill targeting will focus on target areas #1 and #2 as shown on the above figure. Located approximately 4 kilometers west of Hwy 430, the Wedge target areas #1 & #2 are the only accessible targets in the western portfolio due to heavy snowstorms and the New Brunswick Snowmobile Federation (NBSF), who take over road responsibilities for grooming until April. Arrangements have been made with the NBSF allowing us to clear a portion of the road to facilitate access to the Wedge for fuel deliveries. Drilling is expected to commence immediately targeting the Wedge Mine (Target #1) at depth and defined targets to both the southeast and to the northwest. “Drilling will target the historic Wedge Mine area (Target #1) including the mineralized horizon and geophysical trends along strike to the northwest (Target #2) that Cominco identifies but never drill tested. Additional drill holes are planned to the southeast of the mine in a new area identified by EarthEx and their Late Time conductive response analysis, portrayed by the red axis line on Figure 1, where no drilling has been reported. “ stated Gary Lohman, B.Sc., PGO., Nine Mile Metals VP Exploration and Director. Patrick J Cruickshank, MBA , CEO & Director stated “both the California Lake Target 10 area and the Wedge projects are very high priority and important for Nine Mile Metals. We are fortunate to have been able to relocate the Rig in these conditions and keep our overall program moving forward. We are extremely optimistic for our Wedge targets area and look forward to announcing positive results from this program until end of March. We look forward to returning to California Lake at the soonest time possible. The Rig and the crew are in Bathurst and preparing the site for this weekend start.” Discovered in 1956, the Wedge Mine is located at the northern terminus of a strong magnetic linear (Figure 1). Between 1962 and 1968, operated by Cominco & later purchase by Teck Resources, the mine produced 1.503MT grading (2.88% Cu, 0.65% Pb, 1.81% Zn, 20.6 g/t Ag). McCutcheon et al (2005) stated a historical measured resource of 545,200T* (1.75% Cu, 1.71% Pb & 5.21% Zn) to a depth of 274 meters. The Company has also closed its $1.5m flow-through private placement announced in December (refer news releases December 13, 2023 and December 19, 2023). Total proceeds raised was $1,125,000 which will be used towards exploration programs on the Company’s New Brunswick VMS properties. NINE MILE METALS PROVIDES DRILLING UPDATE AT CALIFORNIA LAKE DRILL HOLE (CL23-10-01)
VANCOUVER, B.C. – NINE MILE METALS LTD. (CSE: NINE, OTCQB: VMSXF, FSE: KQ9) (the “Company” or “Nine Mile”), is pleased to provide an update on its current drillhole (CL23-10-01) at its California Lake VMS Project. Drillhole is currently at a depth of 615 meters targeting Lens A at depth. The Azimuth and dip are monitored daily, the Azimuth presently at 209 degrees and the Dip flattened to 65 degrees. Our calculations show we are on target. Rocks intersected to date include felsic volcanics of the Flat Landing Brook Formation which hosts numerous VMS mines and occurrences in the southern portion of the BMC including Stratmat and Headway. Between 490.10 and 496.15 there was a distinct, banded sulphide zone with 5- 8% pyrite and blebs of chalcopyrite. This section has been cut and will be submitted to ALS Global for analysis. Mixed felsic rocks of the Flat Landing Brook Formation continued to 557 meters where a distinct break occurred, the drill hole intersecting the upper boundary of a Tectonic Zone characterized by white quartz and pink – orange K-Spar veining. Pyrite and chalcopyrite (Cu) mineralization is locally present in the quartz – K-Spar veins associated with the Tectonic Zone. FIGURE 1: (CL23-10-01) , Chalcopyrite (Cu) associated with Quartz – K-Spar veining. FIGURE 2: (CL-23-10-01) Sulphide banding / bedding, 490.10- 496.15m. Figure 3 : (CL23-10-01) Tectonic Zone with White Quartz, Orange K-Spar Nine Mile Metals VP Exploration and Director, Gary Lohman, B.Sc., P.Geo., stated that, “The drill hole is on target as we continue to drill through the Flat Landing Brook felsic volcanics / Tectonic Zone. The banded sulphide zone with visible chalcopyrite was a pleasant surprise, indicating copper in the system. The section has been cut for analysis in addition to other areas where intense silicification and pyrite dominate the drill core.” Kevin B. Hicks, Director stated, “We continue to monitor the dip and azimuth readings as the drilling progresses towards our target depth. The hole was very straight in the upper sections therefore we can accommodate some build rate in the dip and still hit our predetermined target radius at depth.” Still above target depth, the geological sequences encountered in drill hole CL-23-10-01 are characteristic of the Flat Landing Brook felsic volcanics. Local intense hydrothermal alteration, high temperature mineralogy and sulphide banding confirm the potential of the California Lake VMS West trend. Additional drilling is planned along this prospective trend where EarthEx defined numerous untested, late time EM conductors, characteristic of VMS mineralization, along strike of known Cu, Pb and Zn occurrences. The disclosure of technical information in this news release has been prepared in accordance with Canadian regulatory requirements as set out in National Instrument 43-101 – Standards of Disclosure for Mineral Projects (“NI 43-101”) and reviewed and approved by Gary Lohman, B.Sc., P. Nine Mile Metals Uses New Tech to See Deeper
BY NORTHERN MINER STAFF Using new technology to see deep into the Earth, Nine Mile Metals (CSE: NINE) is hoping to unlock the secrets of New Brunswick’s prolific Bathurst Mining Camp. Most times when exploration companies start drilling a new target, they are taking an educated guess. But as drilling begins at Nine Mile Metals’ California Lake project, the team is more confident than usual of their chances of success after not one, but three cutting-edge technologies highlighted the potential of its latest target. “When our three leading edge independent technologies identify the same target or trend, then we prioritize that specific target and we prioritize them due to several criteria, size, scale, favourable geology, to state just a few,” CEO Patrick Cruickshank says. Nine Mile has been active in the historic Bathurst Mining Camp in New Brunswick for the last two years, although their team has been there for six, building up a 130-plus-sq.-km land package covering four projects located close to the World Famous Brunswick No. 12, which was the world’s largest underground zinc — lead mines at one time and mined for over 50 years. For over a century, the Bathurst camp has been one of the world’s most prolific mining centres, with miners identifying 46 volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) deposits so far, more than half of which contain more than a million tonnes of metals. Most are VMS deposits containing a mix of copper, zinc, lead, gold, and silver highly concentrated in a lens of dense metallic ore. They include the historic Brunswick #12, #6, Restigouche, Heath Steele, Startmat, Murray Brook, and Caribou VMS mines. The known VMS deposits can be up to 10 km apart, raising questions and hopes about what lies between them. However, finding the missing mineralization can be tricky as they can lie several hundred metres below surface, and with the lens standing vertically and presenting a footprint just 500-1,000 metres across at surface. Existing technologies, including airborne electromagnetic surveys or electro physics, can identify the possible presence of mineral deposits up to 400 metres deep and use software extrapolation and AI to predict deeper, we need true native geophysics to see deeper. But usually geologists don’t know whether they have valuable base metals or worthless pyrite until they begin testing the targets with expensive diamond drilling. “Traditional geophysics (IP & EM surveys) see 300 metres-400 metres deep and present hundreds of targets that you can’t identify until you drill the target,” Cruickshank notes. To overcome these challenges, Nine Mile has turned to two companies that have developed new ways to look deep below the Earth’s surface without drilling. Nine Mile was already working with Manitoba-based EarthEx Geophysical Solutions to use its proprietary technology and algorithms and late time conductive response analysis to reprocess legacy MegaTEM data to identify a series of priority targets and target trends across its portfolio of VMS projects. This year, the company was approached by Earth Science Services Corp (ESSCO), another Canadian firm which uses airborne acoustic electromagnetic (EM) surveys to search for mineral targets over wide areas. The technique has been developed from Magnetotelluric methods, which are widely used by some of the world’s largest energy companies to find oil and gas deposits. After carrying out a fixed-wing survey over the Bathurst camp, ESSCO identified a handful of target regions which returned similar results using the Brunswick #12 as its computerized baseline model. Nine Mile’s California Lake’s Target Number 10 target was the biggest similar model. Moreover, ESSCO’s suggested targets lined up precisely with the known mines and priority areas identified by EarthEx. “This is when we get excited but cautiously optimistic,” stated Cruickshank. “Mother nature can still be cruel no matter how much de-risking and modeling and preparation you complete. But we believe our technical team is pushing the discovery envelop with the latest exciting technologies and apply them to this world class camp.” ESSCO then used acoustic-transponder reference stations and a drone to fly a local acoustic EM survey to assess the density of the mineral targets. This can help geologists to more quickly discern between the very heavy metallic deposits and the surrounding wall rock. Targets can then simply be tested with a single drill hole allowing worthless false flags to be quickly ruled out. ESSCO then used artificial intelligence to process existing and new data in a model combining both the probable lithology and density of the deposit. “What these guys are doing should speed the whole process up and create an economic exploration model, we can test a large trend or target based on potential economic size and not drill the traditional 10-20 holes,” explains Cruickshank. This work allowed Nine Mile to identify five independent prospective lenses within the Cali #10 target, which the company is now drilling. The first is estimated to be more than 700 metres below surface, a challenging depth to hit such a slender target. But the drilling is being carried out by New Brunswick specialists Les Forages Chapais, a company with decades of experience drilling VMS-style deposits in the Bathurst region. That means negotiating difficult terrain and keeping holes on track hundreds of metres into the ground. Cruickshank is cautiously optimistic about the technology’s potential. “We know EarthEx’s technology works, proven on our last years’ California Lake #8 target,” he said. “Eight successful VMS drill holes on a 2-km trend will be explored further in 2024 now that we have acquired the source target land a few months ago. However, if ESCCO’s density modeling technology is successful, it’s the missing piece we can use to overlap all three technologies for successful target generation.” “The industry has been looking for a technology that can differentiate and filter out what it finds and that’s what this company believes they have, so it’s exciting to be the pilot,” the executive explains. The evidence from ESSCO does not end with target Number 10 but points the way to several other potential mineral deposits, providing Nine Mile with a roadmap
Nine Mile Metals Provides Drilling Update At California Lake Drill Hole (CL23-10-01)
VANCOUVER, B.C. – Friday December 8th, 2023 – NINE MILE METALS LTD. (CSE: NINE, OTCQB: VMSXF, FSE: KQ9) (the “Company” or “Nine Mile”), is pleased to provide an update on its current drill hole (CL23-10-01) at its California Lake VMS Project. Drill hole is currently at a depth of 433.3 meters, now targeting Lens A at a measured depth of 720m. The Azimuth and Dip are monitored daily, the Azimuth presently at 207 degrees and the Dip flattened to 67 degrees. Our calculations show we are still on target. (Figure 2) Rocks intersected to date include felsic volcanics of the Flat Landing Brook Formation which hosts numerous VMS mines and occurrences in the southern portion of the Bathurst Ming Camp (“BMC”) including the Stratmat and Headway VMS Deposits. At depth, the felsic volcanics are well altered, the original host rock character locally obliterated by intense phengite alteration, a key alteration halo associated with VMS deposits (Figure 3). Rock alteration and mineralogy, indicative of high temperature, further confirm an active hydrothermal system was present during deposition. Due to the length of this targeted drill hole, continued monitoring of the azimuth and dip is critical. Once the drill hole is collared, a gyro survey is conducted at every 30-meter interval recording both the azimuth and dip. The trajectory is then calculated and plotted to ensure the drill hole is within our target parameters. As required, a continuous gyro survey can be conducted, recording details at 1-meter intervals, providing an accurate plot of the trajectory. In the event a severe deviation is detected, drilling can be modified to redirect the hole to target. Geologists from the New Brunswick Department of Mines and Energy have reviewed the drill core and confirmed the presence of various members of the Flat Landing Brook Formation including sediments, rhyolites and accompanying phengite alteration. There were no surprises in the drill core and all rock types encountered are characteristic for this portion of the BMC. Nine Mile Metals VP Exploration and Director, Gary Lohman, B.Sc., PGO., stated that, “The team is very pleased with progress to date. The Chapais drill team has been very diligent maintaining the trajectory of the hole while also providing excellent core recovery. Geologically, we are encouraged by the results to date, the host rocks relating very well to the classical model below (Figure 3), especially the intense alteration intersected which is associated with the Flat Landing Brook rhyolites.” Kevin B. Hicks, Director stated, “Drilling remains on track and the projected landing location at target depth remains well within our target radius. The drilling rate in meters per day will slow as we progress deeper in the hole due to core retrieval cycling and the hardness of the rock. Given the shallowing of the dip angle, our measured depth target has gone from 705 to 720 meters for a true vertical depth target of 675 meters. We look forward to next week and our continued drilling of this important hole on the tip of the California West VMS Trend.” Drilling to date has intersected a variety of rock types including a very distinct red sediment known to occur proximal to VMS mineralization at both the Ahearn Brook occurrence to the immediate north and the Stratchens Lake Brook occurrence to the west (Figure 4). Below the red sediments, there are long sequences of felsic volcanics, a key component of the VMS model. At California Lake, we have intersected wide sequences of rhyolite, including sections exhibiting intense phengite alteration. As seen in figure 5, the alteration halo can be abrupt, accompanied by bleaching of the host rock. Sequences of banded pyritic horizons up to 5 meters in width have also been noted in drill core attesting to a depositional environment. Base metal mineralization includes zinc associated within larger blebs of pyrite, confirmed with the XRF, and minor blebs of chalcopyrite (copper) within sections of Fe enriched (black) chlorite, the latter, when of substantial size and enrichment, define Zone 2 in (Figure 3) above. Although still above target depth, the geological sequences encountered in drill hole CL-23-10-01 are characteristic of a VMS environment. Locally intense hydrothermal alteration of the volcanics and high temperature mineralogy are also positive indicators of a potentially productive VMS system at depth.
